To granite, or not to granite.

At least once a day we must say to clients…pick your counter tops first!

Regardless of whether you are doing a kitchen Reno or a bathroom Reno, the counter top is one of the most important and expensive selections you will make.  If choosing granite, the grain and movement (swirls of colour) in the stone will determine whether or not you can look at flooring with movement or colour. You don’t want to put a colourful counter with bands of colour with a floor with the same intensity…it’s kind of like putting plaids and stripes together. I know you fashionista’s are raising an eyebrow because it can be done…but boy oh boy it’s tough to do right.

Solid surfaces such as quartzite allow for a “quieter finish” to give more consistency in colour.  This will allow you to choose flooring with more colour variations and pattern. You should fall in love with the counter top as it will leave a strong horizontal impression. Much easier to find flooring to match or enhance  a counter…then having to settle on a  granite because it’s the only one that goes with the multi-color floor you have selected.
